Farmer’s Choice Limited has obtained Food Safety System Certification (FSSC 22000 Version 6), an internationally recognised standard for food safety management, in a move that strengthens its compliance with global food safety requirements.

The certification, which is aligned to ISO standards and recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), assesses food safety controls across the production chain, including sourcing of raw materials, processing, packaging, and distribution.

According to the company, the certification is expected to support market access both locally and internationally and reinforce internal food safety controls through regular monitoring, audits, and risk-based management systems.

“Food safety is integral to our operations,” said Farmer’s Choice chief executive officer Felisters Gitau Mutugu, adding that the certification validates the company’s production systems and its integrated farm-to-table model.

The certification was issued by Bureau Veritas, a global testing, inspection and certification firm. Bureau Veritas conducts independent assessments for organisations across multiple sectors, including food production, energy, and manufacturing.

Cyprian Kabbis, Bureau Veritas country chair for Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, said FSSC 22000 is among the more comprehensive food safety certification schemes, requiring structured governance, continuous improvement, and risk management processes.

The certification also aligns with Farmer’s Choice’s stated sustainability and traceability objectives, particularly in responsible sourcing and production practices across its meat processing operations.
