Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi is counting losses after his businesses near Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi were vandalized in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

According to witnesses, police officers arrived at the area around 12 am and used teargas canisters and live rounds to disperse crowds and those on duty before demolitions commenced.

"The bulldozers were running over everything, including cars that were parked here," said Paul Kilonzo.

Affected businesses include a car wash, a car dealership, a car parts store and others.

More than five vehicles are reported to have been vandalized.

Businessmen and residents in the area have condemned the move, claiming that Governor Wamatangi is being politically targeted since neighbouring businesses were not affected.

"Property worth millions has been destroyed. There was no notice given here, and this is politically motivated. The people who have done this are targeting Governor Wamatangi," Isaac Mbugua added.

Wamatangi has since arrived at the scene to assess the damage.
