Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged residents of the Mt Kenya East region to remain united behind President William Ruto and Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, saying cohesion is critical to sustaining development and political stability.

Ruku said the government is optimistic that the proposed Infrastructure Fund Bill will be debated and passed by Parliament in February, paving the way for the financing of major, life-changing development projects across the country.

He explained that the fund is designed to support large, capital-intensive projects that cannot be adequately financed through the normal budgetary process.

Among the flagship projects expected to benefit are the dualling of the Makutano–Embu–Meru highway and the construction of large dams to support irrigation and enhance food security.

Speaking during a church service at PCEA Chogoria Town Church in Tharaka Nithi County, held in honour of outgoing Reverend Amos Kimau, Ruku said Kenyans should begin to see tangible results from the Infrastructure Fund from June, as projects move into the implementation phase.

He noted that expanded electricity connectivity would be among the early gains, with the fund supporting the extension of power to more households and businesses, thereby lowering the cost of doing business and stimulating economic growth.

The CS said President Ruto remains committed to reviving and stabilising the economy, adding that the current leadership arrangement has strengthened cooperation within government.

He accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of being uncooperative, contrasting him with Prof. Kindiki, whom he described as focused and supportive of the President’s development agenda.

Ruku warned residents of Mt Kenya East against backing the opposition, saying such moves would weaken and destabilise the Deputy President, whom he described as “a son of Tharaka Nithi.”

He dismissed claims that President Ruto faces strong national resistance, arguing that opposition to his re-election is largely confined to parts of Mt Kenya, while the rest of the country continues to support his leadership.

He further said Prof. Kindiki has the capacity to vie for the presidency in 2032 but stressed that this would depend on strong backing from his home region. He urged residents to rally behind the government to secure continued development and political relevance.

Ruku also called on the church to continue praying for the country’s leadership, saying spiritual support is vital as leaders carry out their responsibilities.

The CS was accompanied by MPs Kareke Mbiuki (Maara) and Patrick Munene(Chuka Igamba Ng’ombe), Deputy Governor Nyaga Muisraeli and other local leaders.
