The Wiper Party has come to its leader’s defence, Kalonzo
Musyoka, after endless attacks from President William Ruto.
President Ruto went for Kalonzo’s jugular after he scoffed
at the president’s ambitious development plans, forcing Ruto to term Kalonzo a
pessimist and lacks authority to lecture him on his ambitious development
agendas.
While Ruto has maintained his bare knuckle attacks on the
Wiper boss, the party has now warned the president to desist from affronting Kalonzo
and focus on running his administrative role.
In a statement on Friday, the party argued that Ruto’s remarks
expose how he is ‘politically cornered’ and is only attempting to use Kalonzo
as a whipping boy to distract Kenyans from reprimanding his administration.
“Ruto knows what every Kenyan knows: his time is up. The
people have made their choice. And in his desperation, he has unleashed his
digital militia and propaganda machine in a futile attempt to destroy what he
cannot buy: Kalonzo Musyoka's integrity and the people's trust,” the statement
read in part.
“His attacks on Kalonzo Musyoka are not about development.
They are the desperate flailing of a failed President who sees his defeat
coming and is trying everything to capture opposition strongholds before
Kenyans remove him from power in 2027.”
The party accused President Ruto of sabotaging the growth of
the nation since he took power in 2022, arguing that he has claimed credit for
projects executed by other leaders.
Wiper believes that the Kibwezi- Mutomo- Kitui-Bondoni road,
an infrastructure at the heart of the duo’s tussle, was launched by Kalonzo in
2011 while he was Vice President but was later sabotaged by the Jubilee regime
in 2013 when Ruto was Deputy President.
“The sabotage began (2013). Kalonzo revealed that elements
within the Jubilee administration, Ruto's regime, wrote to EXIM Bank of China
terming the road "not economically viable" to kill the project. This
was deliberate, calculated sabotage,” the party argued.
They claimed that the project was relaunched on December
2016 and President Ruto has no right to claim credit for the road’s
construction.
Wiper also accused Ruto of being “a dictator in democratic
clothing", claiming that he has crippled key sectors among them education, healthcare
and looting of public resources has been on an alarming rise.
“JKIA, our gateway to the world. Kenya Pipeline, our energy
lifeline. Safaricom, built with Kenyan sweat and investment are all being
auctioned off to Ruto's friends and foreign bidders without public
participation, without following the law, without shame,” Wiper argued.
The party therefore noted that no amount of mudslinging will
tarnish Kalonzo’s image, arguing that his
integrity has been proven over decades of public service.
“Ruto's regime is a three-year disaster that shall and will
end in 2027. The Wiper Patriotic Front, alongside our partners in the United
Opposition, will be the anchor of Kenya's restoration,” it noted.
Meanwhile, President Ruto has unveiled a Ksh.5 trillion “road
to Singapore development dream” that he says will earn Kenya a first world
status within a decade.
Kalonzo has rebutted the ambitious plan, dismissing it as
unrealistic and constitutionally flawed.
