Behind closed doors at the Kibera Law Courts on Tuesday, the
murder trial of Kasipul Member of Parliament Ong’ondo Were resumed. Under tight
security, the eighth prosecution witness took to the stand at the Kibera Law
Courts.
The witness told the court he was
summoned to Jacaranda, where he first met the first suspect who would later be
the hitman. Using his motorcycle, he ferried him to a car wash, where they
paused for a meal before continuing their journey.
In Buruburu, the suspects linked
up with a second man—the driver of a white Toyota Crown.
Together, the motorcycle and the car moved towards Nairobi’s
CBD, stopping at a petrol station along Jogoo Road to fuel. The Toyota Crown
driver paid for the fuel.
One suspect carried a small bag.
According to the witness, his role was to wait while surveillance was carried
out on the victim within Parliament area.
The rider trailed the victim’s
vehicle, a white Toyota Crown, through Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road, and
Hurlingham, until they reached the Daystar University roundabout.
Here, the suspect ordered him to
stop due to traffic. Moments later, gunshots rang out. The suspect returned,
leapt onto the motorcycle, and commanded the rider to flee the scene.
They rushed back to Buruburu.
Payment came later: Ksh.50,000. The witness insisted before Justice Diana
Kavetza that he had no knowledge of a murder plot, believing he was only
providing transport.
Throughout his testimony, the
witness remained under heavy protection. His account now forms a crucial link
in the prosecution’s case, placing both the alleged hitman and the driver of
the Toyota Crown at the scene of Ong’ondo Were’s killing.
As the trial continues, the Kibera
Law Courts remain sealed, but inside, the search for justice presses forward.
