Speaking during a funeral service at Kiang'ondu in Chuka Igambang'ombe Constituency, Tharaka Nithi County, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku said the region had already made its political choice and would remain firmly in government.
Ruku said Mt Kenya East leaders were not concerned by the outcome of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, adding that leaders and residents from Mt Kenya West were free to make their own political decisions.
"We are not worried about the results of the Ol Kalou by-election. Mt Kenya West can do whatever they wish, but as Mt Kenya East, we have already made our decision. We will remain in government and continue supporting President William Ruto and his Deputy, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, for a second term," Ruku said.
He maintained that the region's quest for greater economic and political independence was intended to strengthen its bargaining power and ensure equitable distribution of development projects and resources.
Chuka/Igambang'ombe MP Patrick Munene reiterated that leaders from the region would continue championing the interests of Mt Kenya East residents.
"We will not tire in pushing for the economic and political independence of Mt Kenya East so that our people can get their rightful share of national resources and opportunities. Our unity is our strength, and we remain committed to ensuring the region benefits from government development programmes," Munene said.
The leaders urged residents to remain united behind the initiative, saying a common political voice would enhance the region's influence and help accelerate development across Mt Kenya East while maintaining support for the Kenya Kwanza administration.
