Speaking during interdenominational prayers held at his home in Ugunja, Wandayi revealed that only a handful of leaders including himself and Senator Dr. Oburu Odinga were involved in the talks that birthed the coalition.
He insisted that those now raising objections were absent when ODM leader Raila Odinga struck the deal.
“For those making noise out there, some of them I wonder. They were not there when we were negotiating this broad-based government. We were not more than five,” Wandayi said.
Wandayi praised Raila Odinga as a “foremost nationalist and negotiator” who managed to secure six cabinet slots and several principal secretary positions in a government ODM had not voted for.
He emphasized that Raila ensured the positions were distributed across all regions, reinforcing inclusivity and fairness.
The CS confirmed ODM is considering a structured pre-election coalition agreement with UDA as the country heads toward the 2027 elections. He stressed that such negotiations must be guided by the principle of “give and take,” adding that ODM has full confidence in Dr. Oburu Odinga to lead talks when the time comes.
“Your noise is premature. When the time comes, he will lead us appropriately,” Wandayi told critics.
Wandayi appealed to ODM parliamentarians to demonstrate leadership, accept political realities, and acknowledge President Ruto’s goodwill toward ODM supporters.
Senator Moses Kajwang added that while strategies may change, ODM’s cause must remain constant.
Bishop Dr. Evans Ooko of God’s Miracle Centre Kisumu urged Kenyans to reject tension and embrace healing, calling on citizens to be “builders and healers” of the nation.
