Soy United have strengthened their technical bench with the appointment of Owen Makokha as the club’s new assistant coach, signaling renewed ambition as the National Super League season enters a crucial phase.

The club confirmed Makokha’s arrival in an official statement, welcoming him back to the Blue Eagles family for a second stint.

A holder of a CAF B Coaching Licence, Makokha rejoins Soy United after previously serving during the club’s pioneer season in 2017.

His return is seen as a strategic move aimed at injecting experience and stability into the technical setup as the team looks to climb the league standings.

He replaces Samwel Twago, who recently vacated the role.

Makokha brings with him vast experience in Kenya’s second-tier league and football administration.

He previously worked with Naivas FC, where he played a key role in guiding the club to two National Super League and Kenyan Premier League promotional playoff appearances.

His coaching résumé also includes productive spells with Fortune Sacco, Kibera Blackstars, and Equity Bank FC, earning him a reputation as a tactician well-versed in nurturing competitive squads.

The new appointment comes at an opportune time for head coach Jeffers Odongo, who recently guided Soy United into the 2026 phase of the season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Equity Bank FC on January 7, 2026.

Odongo has since outlined plans to reinforce the squad during the ongoing mid-season transfer window, targeting the signing of approximately four new players to boost consistency, particularly in away matches.

Soy United’s recent resurgence has offered renewed hope in their National Super League campaign.

The Blue Eagles currently sit 12th on the table with 19 points from 14 matches, having played one game fewer than several of their rivals.

They are eight points adrift of the top three automatic promotion places to the FKF Premier League, but confidence is growing within the camp.

Makokha’s influence will be tested immediately, as Soy United prepare to return home to face sixth-placed Mombasa United on January 11 at 3:00 PM.

Buoyed by their recent win over Equity Bank FC, the Blue Eagles will be aiming to build momentum, with the new-look technical bench expected to play a key role in shaping the club’s push for a strong second half of the season.
