According to the agency, the rains will start off lightly in the early part of the week and get heavier starting on Thursday. Some locations may get afternoon and night showers with thunderstorms.
During the March 17-23 period, the weatherman forecasts that rainfall is expected over the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the South-eastern Lowlands, and the Coast region of Kenya. The rain intensity in these areas will intensify from Thursday.
These regions comprise Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi Counties, which are in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley.
The intensified rain will also be witnessed in Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok Counties. These are regions on the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.
Counties in the South-eastern lowlands are also expected to witness the rains. They include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County.
According to the weatherman, coastal areas including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties, as well as the Tana Delta will experience showers which are likely to increase from Thursday.
As the week goes on, locals in Nairobi and other Highlands East of the Rift Valley should anticipate morning rainfall in a few locations and afternoon to night showers that could spread to many locations.
The Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley are predicted to have similar weather patterns, with bright spells at the beginning of the week giving way to later showers.
The Meteorological body also cautioned that some of the impacted areas would experience sporadic heavy rainfall events, increasing the risk of localized floods.
While most of the country experiences rainfall, parts of North-Eastern and North-Western Kenya are expected to stay mostly sunny and dry.
The public has been warned by the meteorologist to keep up with daily forecasts and adopt the appropriate safety measures, particularly in places that are vulnerable to flooding.
