Probe as police discover severely mutilated woman's body in Nyeri

The gruesome discovery, made on Thursday morning, has sent shockwaves through Nyeri Central, with investigators suspecting the victim was killed elsewhere before her remains were transported and abandoned at the scene.

According to police, residents walking along the Nyeri–Ngangarithi road noticed a suspicious sack lying in a farm approximately three kilometres west of Nyeri Police Station. Upon closer inspection, they alerted authorities, prompting officers and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to rush to the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the body belonged to an adult woman and had been horrifically mutilated. Detectives established that the victim's head, hands and legs had been severed, with all limbs missing from the scene.

A thorough search of the surrounding area by police officers and local residents failed to recover any of the missing body parts.

Investigators believe the woman was murdered at a different location before the perpetrators transported the torso, concealed in a sack, and dumped it by the roadside. Police sources indicated that the remains were not fresh, suggesting the killing may have occurred several days before the body was discovered.

The body has since been transferred to the mortuary at Nyeri County Referral Hospital, where it awaits formal identification and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death and aid ongoing investigations.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify the victim or assist in the investigation to come forward.

Detectives are pursuing several leads as efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing continue.
