Opposition leaders now want a total overhaul of the election technology that the election body plans to use in next year's general election.

Speaking in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County, the leaders raised concerns over the renewal of the contract for Smartmatic technology company, insisting that they do not have confidence in the technology firm to handle the country's 2027 General Election.

Opposition leaders have come out guns blazing, questioning the election technology that will be deployed for the 2027 polls.

Former Attorney General Justin Muturi, who was in the company of the opposition figures in Kipipiri, raised concerns over the renewal of the contract for the technology firm that they claim bungled the 2022 General Election.

The opposition claims that the technology firm officials have been holding alleged secret meetings in Nairobi, raising more questions on the credibility of the 2027 general election.

They further allege that evidence shows the Venezuelan technology is always manipulated and is part of election fraud. Muturi added that on the weekend of July 5 and 6, Marjan and Kamargo were engaged in undisclosed activities at State House. Opposition leaders insisted, "This company, Smartmatic, must be rejected. We cannot accept it."

The leaders accused IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan of illegally extending the operation period of the election technology firm and now want the extension revoked.

Marjan signed an extension of Smartmatic to handle next year's election. Opposition leaders said, "We totally oppose this and we want it revoked."

The opposition leaders further dismissed the planned Singapore journey, terming it diversionary.
