NTSA suspends 4 public transport companies after breaching road safety laws

In a notice on Monday, NTSA said the affected operators were found to have breached conditions governing public service vehicles, including failure to meet safety standards required under the Traffic Act and NTSA regulations, and also recorded fatal crashes during the December 2025 festive season.

The company was listed following a road accident on January 6, 2026, at Kimende area along the Nairobi-Naivasha Road.
The Authority ordered the company to present 24 vehicles with various violations for compliance inspection at Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre and submit the report to NTSA.
Further, NTSA suspended the driving licences of 18 drivers involved in violating speed limits for 90 days, after which they will be required to undergo a driver re-test.
The company was given 21 days to comply with the conditions failure to which their operating licence shall be revoked.
Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd.
NTSA ordered the company to present 128 vehicles with various violations for compliance inspections at Nyeri Motor Vehicles Inspection Centre and submit the report to the Authority.
The licences of 26 drivers involved in speed violations were suspended for 90 days pending a re-test.
The company was given 21 days to comply with the conditions, lest its licence be revoked.
Monna Comfort Sacco.
The Sacco was ordered to present all 19 vehicles with violations at Nakuru Motor Vehicle inspection Centre.
At the same time, 26 drivers' licences were suspended for breaching the speed limits.
NTSA resolved to suspend the company's operations.
Greenline Company Ltd.
The Sacco was ordered to present all 33 vehicles with violations at Likoni Motor Vehicle inspection Centre.
At the same time, 29 licences were suspended for breaching the speed limits.

Naekana Route 134 Sacco Ltd.
NTSA ordered the company to present 128 vehicles with various violations for compliance inspections at Likoni/Machakos Motor Vehicles Inspection Centre and submit the report to the Authority.

Uwezo Coast Shuttle.
The company failed to honour NTSA's summons and was suspended from all operations till further notice.
NTSA warned that the move is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce accidents involving public transport vehicles, noting that operators who disregard safety requirements pose a serious risk to passengers and other road users.
“The Authority will not hesitate to take decisive action against operators who compromise the safety of the public,” NTSA said, adding that enforcement operations targeting non-compliant matatus and buses will continue countrywide.
The regulator directed the suspended operators to cease operations until they fully comply with the law, warning that further violations could attract stiffer penalties, including de-registration.
NTSA also cautioned members of the public against boarding vehicles belonging to suspended operators, urging passengers to verify the status of public service vehicles before travel.
The suspensions come amid renewed enforcement measures by NTSA as the authority steps up its campaign to improve discipline, compliance, and safety within the public transport sector.
