In a statement on Thursday, DCP noted that MP Koimburi has never been involved in party activities and, despite being an ally of the party leader Rigathi Gachagua, he has not accompanied him in any public function for the last six months, while using excuses.
The party further alleged that some party members have been apprehensive of his loyalty to the cause after he was rumoured to be working for President William Ruto to spy on the party movements in exchange for slowing down the prosecution of cases filed against him.
It also cited Koimburi's alleged abduction reported in May 2025, claiming that he staged the incident to escape facing his legal cases.
"Indeed, our party leader has been extremely careful after he embarrassed himself by lying to him that he had been abducted by police a few months ago, only to learn that he had 'abducted himself' to avoid arrest over land fraud cases," DCP noted.
"Our party leader defended him publicly, castigating the said abduction, only to learn it was a classical con game."
DCP also noted that Koimburi was not pleased with the party's invitation to Aloise Kinyanjui, his long-time political rival, to join DCP and even Gachagua declaring him the DCP candidate for the Juja parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
The party added that Koimburi alleged betrayal after he voted against Gachagua's impeachment, yet he was rewarded with disloyalty.
"Hon Koimburi said it was his understanding that all sitting Members of Parliament and the Senate who voted against the impeachment of the party leader would not be subjected to party nominations and would be given direct nominations to contest the 2027 General Elections," DCP noted.
"He demanded that Aloise Kinyanjui be removed from the party and that he be given a written assurance that he shall be given a direct nomination."
The party also intimated that Koimburi demanded that he be exempted from attending public functions with the party leader until February next year to slow down the prosecution of the various criminal cases facing him.
"He threatened to move back to rejoin William Ruto if his conditions were not met," the party added.
Gachagua, however, did not grant him the demands; instead urged him to follow due political party processes to gain nomination for the Juja MP position in the nomination contest slated for March 2027.
"He politely informed him his request for direct nomination could not be met as DCP is a Democratic Party and all those who intend to fly its flag for all positions would be determined in a free and fair party nomination," DCP added.
"The Party Leader further informed Hon. Koimburi that much as he appreciated the support of all those who voted against his impeachment, it would be undemocratic to exempt them from party nominations as that would effectively kill the party that is enjoying massive support."
His request not to attend party functions was, however, granted.
"Our party leader remains grateful to Hon. Koimburi for his support during his impeachment and his leadership and wishes him well," DCP noted.
Koimburi publicly announced his decision to cut ties with the former DP on Wednesday over what he termed as betrayal and deceit
“I stood with Gachagua when it mattered most. I fought battles for him and paid the price, only to be betrayed at the altar of convenience,” Koimburi said.
“Money exchanged hands behind my back. I was sold out by someone I trusted,” he claimed.
He announced that he will now support President Ruto’s government, arguing that his decision is informed by the need to unlock development for the Juja constituency.
“Juja needs roads, water, electricity, hospitals and modern markets. I cannot continue sacrificing my people on the altar of personal politics,” he said.
“I have not been bought. I am choosing development over empty politics,” he said.
