KMPDU Chairman Abidan Mwachi receives American College of Surgeons honour

The Kenya Medical
Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) National Chairman, Dr.
Abidan Mwachi, has been accepted as an Associate Fellow of the American College
of Surgeons (ACS), one of the world's leading professional surgical organisations
dedicated to advancing surgical excellence, ethics, education and patient care.
The recognition is
awarded to surgeons whose education, training, professional achievements and
ethical standards meet the College's requirements, marking an important
milestone in their professional development.
Announcing the
achievement, Dr. Mwachi described the recognition as a significant career
milestone and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing surgical practice and
patient care.
"This is an
important milestone in my career," he said, noting that the ACS is
"one of the top organizations for surgical excellence, ethical practices,
education, and patient care."
He added that
being accepted as an Associate Fellow signifies continued professional growth
and commitment to quality surgical care.
"Being an
Associate Fellow means I am on a path of ongoing professional growth and
dedication to quality surgery," Dr. Mwachi said.
The surgeon said
the recognition extends beyond personal achievement, expressing hope that it
will strengthen efforts to improve surgical standards, mentorship, medical
training and patient safety.
"This
recognition is not just about me; it inspires me to improve surgical practices,
mentorship, training, and patient safety," he said.
"I am
committed to providing care that meets the best standards globally while
focusing on our patients' needs."
Dr. Mwachi also
said he looks forward to opportunities for international collaboration,
education and knowledge sharing through the fellowship.
"I also look
forward to the new opportunities this role brings for sharing ideas, education,
and collaboration with others in the surgical field," he said.
The American
College of Surgeons will formally confer the recognition during its Convocation
Ceremony scheduled for September 26, 2026, at the Walter E. Washington
Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
Accepting the
honour, Dr. Mwachi said it comes with greater responsibility to uphold the
highest standards of surgical practice.
"I accept
this honor with gratitude and a renewed sense of responsibility," he said.
"Surgical
excellence depends on the efforts of many people, including mentors, patients,
and the lessons we learn along the way."
