Kindiki hosts thousands for Christmas celebrations, urges drivers to be extra cautious on the road

The DP said it is worrying to see fellow citizens lose their lives in road crashes, especially avoidable tragedies.

The Deputy President spoke on Wednesday at home in Irunduni, Tharaka Nithi County where he hosted thousands of residents who joined him for Christmas celebrations.

The Second in Command said it is time for Kenyans to celebrate Christmas and welcome the New Year in full health not to subject them to mourning because of careless driving.

“Most people are travelling home for Christmas and New Year holidays. I am beseeching drivers whether of private or public vehicles to be vigilant and responsible on the road. You are carrying precious lives who are important to our country. Human lives are precious and irreplaceable,” DP noted.

Prof. Kindiki stated that latest figures by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) are saddening as dozens of lives have already been lost via fatal crashes reported across the country.

“NTSA has released figures of those we have lost in road accidents recently. On Tuesday alone, we lost at least 25 people. This year, we have lost so many people through road accidents yet most of these accidents are avoidable if we drive responsibly,” he cautioned.

The DP used the occasion to apprise the locals of multiple development projects in the County, and across the country, revealing that expansion of roads, electricity connection and other infrastructural programs will continue at the same speed in the coming year.

“We have resumed road construction and many projects are now ongoing across the country. This will continue in 2026 because the economy is flourishing owing to fruitful economic interventions. We will commence many more from January 2026 including here in Tharaka Nithi.

Electricity connection is progressing well. We want every home to be connected. We have funds to support this national electrification project,” DP stated.
