Before Wang'uru principal magistrate Martha Opanga, the court was informed that Brian Macharia, on January 9, 2026, at Kiriko village in Mwea-east sub-county within Kirinyaga County, was found in possession of nine and a half rolls of cannabis, all valued at Ksh.960/-, which was not for medical use, contrary to the Narcotic Drugs and psychotropic substance control Act 4 of 1994.
Brian Macharia pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis and, in his mitigation, promised the court. Macharia said he thought smoking weed was legal, as it had been helping him chase away quelea birds, which are leading farmers to hire expensive bird scarers.
Macharia was fined Ksh.10,000 or six months imprisonment and given 14 days to appeal if he was not satisfied.
