In a Gazette notice dated April 30, 2026, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya revoked Omanga’s appointment with immediate effect.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1)(e) of the State Corporations Act… the Cabinet Secretary for Defence revokes the appointment of Millicent Nyaboke Omanga as a member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Shipyards Limited, with effect from the 30th April, 2026,” the notice states.
Omanga had been appointed to the board in January 2025 for a three-year term.
Following the revocation, Omanga took to social media to react to the decision, claiming she was unaware of the revoked position in the first place.
“Apparently, I’ve just been officially removed from a board I didn’t even know I was still serving on. Impressive level of coordination… decisions being made about roles that only exist on paper lol,” she said.
Her remarks elicited mixed reactions with Kenyans online taking to the platform to criticise the Nairobi Woman Rep aspirant, saying she was taking them for a ride by playing ignorant.
A section of X users even went ahead to share past images of the former nominated Senator attending board meetings at the Mombasa Shipyards.
Her removal comes after she recently ditched the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), where she had previously clashed with party leadership after being affiliated with the Opposition leadership.
