Police in Matungulu, Machakos County have recovered a firearm that was stolen from Kinyui Police Station two months ago.

The recovery comes just a day after Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko pledged that authorities would pursue the suspect and ensure the weapon is found.

Matungulu Deputy County Commissioner Evelyn Wekesa, who confirmed the incident, said that the gun was located on Tuesday evening, abandoned in Katine area.

Wekesa noted that although the weapon was recovered, it was missing the butt stock and the magazine, and efforts are ongoing to determine whether those parts will also be recovered.

She added that security teams are working tirelessly to apprehend the suspect, who is still at large.

This recovery follows reports of increased insecurity in the area, which authorities believe may be linked to the stolen firearm.

Residents have voiced concerns that the missing gun had heightened their risk and increased tensions within the community.
