Bandari produced a thrilling 2–1 comeback victory against Kakamega Homeboyz in today’s league encounter at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.
Kakamega Homeboyz had taken the lead through Oliver Machaka,
but late goals from Mohamed Barisa and Amza Ndayou within two minutes crushed
the visitors’ hopes of going top of the KPL table.
The visitors started the match strongly, with Moses Mudavadi
coming close in the 10th minute when his flicked header narrowly missed the
target, brushing the outside of the net.
Bandari gradually grew into the game after the opening
quarter, with Amza Ndayou and captain Andrew Juma both missing clear
opportunities to open the scoring.
Despite both sides pushing for a breakthrough, the first
half ended in a goalless draw.
At the start of the second half, Kakamega Homeboyz
introduced Oliver Machaka and Samuel Otieno. The changes paid off in the 58th
minute when the duo combined well, with Machaka tapping home from close range
following a precise pass from Otieno to give the visitors the lead.
Bandari were unlucky in the following 10 minutes, as striker
Amza Ndayou missed three clear chances to draw level.
Kakamega Homeboyz then dropped deeper to withstand pressure
from the Dockers, but substitute Mohamed Barisa struck a stunning overhead kick
in the 92nd minute to restore parity.
Just a minute later, Amza Ndayou completed the comeback by
lofting the ball over Kakamega goalkeeper Simon Masaka, sealing Bandari’s
victory and handing coach Bernard Mwalala his first win since returning as head
coach.
Speaking after the final whistle, interim Bandari coach
Razak Siwa welcomed the result, describing it as a breakthrough moment for the
team.
“It was a very tough match, but I am happy the players
worked hard. In the last ten minutes, we pushed even harder and managed to get
the maximum points,” said Siwa.
“We created many chances during the match but failed to
convert most of them. We will definitely work on being more clinical.”
On the other hand, Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick
Odhiambo attributed the loss to a lapse in concentration late in the game.
“We played well, but in the final minutes we drastically
lost concentration and conceded quick goals. The lack of coordination between
the last defender and the goalkeeper cost us,” Odhiambo noted.
