Two people have been confirmed dead and seven others injured after a building under construction collapsed opposite Karen Community Church along Ngong Road.
Kenya Red Cross
confirmed the incident, saying three people were evacuated and those injured
rushed for treatment as others are suspected to be trapped.
According to
reports, the first floor caved in the moment they started laying the slab
foundation of its entry.
So far, roll call
has been taken and all other workers have been accounted for, except the two confirmed
dead.
Response teams are
presently at the scene.
The incident comes
after a 12-storey building collapsed in South C, killing two people.
Experts within the
building and construction industry have been calling for a speedy investigation
into the South C building collapse, saying those who approved the additional
floors on the building should be held accountable for breach of the professional
code of conduct.
The union also revealed that over 85% of buildings within Nairobi City are unsafe for occupation.
