The law enforcers have endured a difficult debut campaign in the top flight and currently sit 16th on the table with 14 points. They have managed five wins, two draws and seven losses, leaving them firmly in the relegation battle. Their opponents AFC Leopards, popularly known as Ingwe, are second on the standings with 30 points, level with leaders Gor Mahia.
Kakamega Homeboyz, Shabana and Kenya Police complete the top five, all tied on 24 points.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Akama said he is confident that Omollo’s vast experience will help steady the ship and inspire improved performances, beginning with the high-profile encounter against Leopards.
“It is true we have not had a good run in the league, but I believe we can turn things around,” said Akama, who joined the Kericho Green Stadium-based club in mid-2025. “We have a new coach in Sammy Omollo who is very experienced, and I am confident he will help us avoid relegation and remain in the Premier League, which is our main objective this season.”
Akama added that the team has responded positively to the new technical bench, with morale boosted ahead of the weekend fixture.
“Under coach Omollo, the players have undergone intensive training and the mood in camp is very encouraging. As a board, we will give the team all the support it deserves to ensure we finish the season in a better position,” he said.
On the other hand, AFC Leopards head coach Fred Ambani has warned APS Bomet to expect a tough outing as Ingwe continue their push for the league title.
“We have had a very good run since the festive season, winning three matches in a row, and that is the spirit we want to maintain against Bomet,” Ambani said. “I strongly believe this is our season to restore the club’s lost glory by winning the title. The players have shown great commitment and hunger.”
Ambani also called on Leopards fans to turn up in large numbers to rally behind the team.
“I urge our supporters to come out in big numbers and support us as we push for maximum points and aim to go top of the table,” he added.
So far this season, Ingwe have recorded eight wins, six losses and two draws, a run that has seen Ambani win the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Coach of the Month award twice in December, alongside recognition from the league’s title sponsors.
Elsewhere in the weekend fixtures, Shabana will host Sofapaka at Gusii Stadium, while Tusker will face Bandari in Murang’a.
Sunday’s matches will see Murang’a Seal play Bidco United in Murang’a, as Gor Mahia entertain Mara Sugar at Nyayo Stadium.
Two fixtures are scheduled for Monday, January 19, with Posta Rangers taking on KCB, while Kenya Police face Nairobi United at Police Sacco Stadium.
