AFC Leopards staged a spirited comeback to defeat Shabana
2–1 in a dramatic FKF Premier League encounter at the Gusii Stadium on
Wednesday afternoon.
The hosts got off to a flying start when young forward Austine
Odongo found the back of the net early in the first half, sending the home
crowd into celebration.
But Leopards refused to fold, with coach Fred Ambani’s
halftime substitutions changing the course of the match.
Captain Victor Omune drew Ingwe level midway through the
second half after a brilliant assist from substitute Julius Masaba.
The visitors sealed the comeback late on when James
Kinyanjui’s curling corner kick caused confusion in the Shabana box, leading to
an own goal that silenced the home fans.
The victory — Leopards’ second consecutive win and fifth
match unbeaten — propels them to fifth on the log with nine points, just four
behind league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz.
For Shabana, it was another tough day at home — their third
straight loss and fourth game without a win, piling pressure on coach Peter
Okidi to find solutions before their next outing.
Meanwhile, in Kericho, Kakamega Homeboyz continued their impressive form with a 2–1 win over APS Bomet, opening up a three-point lead at the top of the standings.
