A boda boda rider died on the spot on Wednesday morning after an accident at Kagio town along the Sagana–Kutus road in Kirinyaga County.

Witnesses said the rider was heading towards Kutus when he lost control of his motorcycle and rolled several times while attempting to avoid a lorry coming from the opposite direction.

According to Kagio resident Julius Waweru, the rider’s attempt to swerve away from the lorry led to the fatal crash.

Traders and residents raised concerns over speeding along the busy stretch of road, especially as construction of the new Kagio market continues.

“Drivers should observe traffic rules because traders are operating right next to the road. This accident has once again highlighted the dangers posed by reckless driving,” said resident Peter Magondu.

Traffic police officers from Sagana Police Station arrived at the scene and moved the body to Kerugoya Hospital Mortuary.

“It is very unfortunate that the accident happened just near Kagio Police Station. The rider, who was alone, hailed from Mung’ang’a village. We remain concerned about the increasing number of boda boda-related accidents and fatalities,” said taxi driver Julius Waweru.
