Property worth milllions destroyed as fire guts business premises in Kwale

Millions of shillings in losses have been reported following a massive fire that destroyed several business premises in Millennium area located in Diani, Kwale County.

The fire reportedly started from an electricity pole before spreading rapidly and destroying high-value property, leaving traders devastated after losing their goods and investments.

Witnesses say efforts to put out the fire faced major challenges due to a shortage of fire engines.

According to them, if there had been more fire trucks, the extent of the damage could have been significantly reduced, and some businesses could have been saved.

Residents are now calling on the Kwale County government to strengthen the fire department and ensure sufficient equipment is available to prevent such disasters from causing widespread destruction in the future.

They say the current situation has exposed serious weaknesses in the county’s emergency preparedness for fire incidents.
