Police in Kirinyaga County have launched investigations after the body of a man was found hanging from a tree in a bush at Ndomba, Kutus, in Mwea East sub-county.

According to Ndomba village elder Joseph Kariuki, the body was discovered by the man’s brother, whose piece of land borders the bush.
“He noticed a foul smell and went to check. That’s when he found the body dangling from a tree. He immediately raised the alarm and informed me, after which I notified the Kutus location chief,” Kariuki said.

Catherine Wangui, a local resident, noted that this was not the first time a body had been found in the area.
“There was a time a headless body was discovered in the same bush. It was later identified as a man from Ciagini in Mwea West sub-county,” she said.

After the body was taken to Kerugoya Mortuary by Wang’uru police officers, Kutus Location Chief Nancy Gichuki confirmed the man had not yet been identified.
“Judging from the condition of the body, it seems it had been there for about a week,” she said.

Residents now suspect foul play, alleging that the man may have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped in the bush.
“This bush has become a crime scene,” said resident Evan Muriithi.
