A sombre mood has engulfed Ngomongo village in Kanyekiine Ward, Kirinyaga Central, after the body of a 39-year-old woman was found dumped along the road.
The woman had been sexually assaulted and attacked before being murdered.
According to residents, the woman’s body was discovered early Thursday morning by a local who was heading to a nearby shop to buy sugar.
“She was well known in the area. She had rented a house here in Ngomongo, and we were with her just yesterday,” said Anne Mwangi, a resident.
Shocked villagers, led by Richard Kiarie, said the woman was found naked, with visible injuries all over her body.
“Detectives from Kerugoya Police Station arrived quickly and informed us that investigations had been launched. The body was lying on the roadside, and they moved it as we watched and cried,” Kiarie said.
Residents have raised alarm over rising insecurity in the area, calling for urgent measures including the installation of streetlights and increased night patrols.
