Police in Nyatike Sub-County have summoned several relatives of a 40-year-old man who was buried without a coffin or a normal burial ceremony, just hours after his death.

According to North East Kadem Location Chief, John Bosco Akal, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was buried in an old blanket instead of a coffin. The family is said to have denied him a proper funeral because he allegedly never contributed to community burials.

Akal explained that the deceased, who had been unwell for some time, died last Friday.

His family reportedly ordered that the body be taken back home immediately, where he was buried within hours.

The chief further stated that no one was willing to pay mortuary fees, buy a coffin, or organize funeral rites for the deceased, citing his failure to support others during similar occasions.

Police have since summoned several family members to record statements as investigations continue.
