Police officers in Sosiot have launched investigations following the discovery of the body of a 70-year-old woman found submerged in River Chepchirik, located in Kesagetiet village, Belgut Constituency, Kericho County.
Residents revealed that this is not the first such incident. Two years ago, another elderly woman was found dead in the same river under similar circumstances.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was last seen drinking alcohol at a nearby location not far from where her body was discovered.
The residents have pointed fingers at the area chief of Seretut location, accusing him of negligence and colluding with illegal brewers in the area.
Angered by the incident, the residents initially blocked efforts to retrieve the body from the river, demanding that the chief personally appear at the scene before any action could be taken.
The body has since been moved to Siloam Mortuary for preservation and postmortem.
Belgut Sub-County Police Commander, David Chepngetich, confirmed the incident and said that investigations into the matter are currently underway.
