Meta has rolled out AI-powered voice translation to Facebook
and Instagram, which will see Reels automatically dubbed into another language.
The feature, first teased last year, uses artificial
intelligence to translate content and also replicate the creator’s voice and
synchronize it with their lip movements for a more natural effect.
Per a Tuesday blog post by Meta, the feature is available
globally for Facebook creators with at least 1,000 followers and all public Instagram
accounts.
The tool currently supports English-to-Spanish and
Spanish-to-English translations, and Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said more
languages are expected to be launched over time, without giving further details.
Creators can enable the feature by selecting the 'Translate voices with Meta AI' option before publishing a Reel. One will also be able to preview their dubbed video and choose whether to activate lip-syncing.
Once published, the translated Reels are automatically shown
to audiences in their preferred language, with a visible tag noting that the
video was dubbed using Meta AI.
“Viewers can also control whether they see translations in specific languages by selecting ‘Don’t translate’ in the audio and language section within the three-dot settings menu,” said Meta.
