Spotify has introduced a new beta feature that allows Premium
users to add custom transitions between songs in their playlists, offering
greater control over how their music flows.
The update, which is rolling out globally to eligible
subscribers, is designed to help users create seamless, DJ-style mixes directly
within the Spotify app.
The “Mix” tool lets listeners
open any existing or new playlist and apply automatic transitions or customise
their own using presets such as “Fade” and “Rise”.
More advanced users can fine-tune specific settings, including
volume changes, EQ adjustments and effect curves, with access to visual
waveform and beat data to determine the best transition point between tracks.
Spotify says the aim is to give
both casual listeners and playlist “experts” more flexibility in how they
express themselves through music.
To assist newcomers, the platform recommends choosing songs
with compatible tempos and keys, prioritising transition-friendly genres like
house and techno, and considering mood and pacing when ordering tracks.
Mixed playlists can be saved,
shared and even collaboratively edited between Premium users, and offer
exclusive visual customisation options, such as stickers and labels for cover
art.
The update comes as Spotify reports that users have created
nearly nine billion playlists on the platform to date.
The company says the launch of custom transitions is part of
its push to enhance the Premium listening experience and empower users to shape
their own soundscapes.
