Kakamega Homeboyz Team Manager Boniface Imbenzi is hoping that Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will finally clear their first choice goalkeeper Patrick Matasi over match-fixing allegations before the new season kicks-off.

The former Harambee Stars shot-stopper was provisionally suspended for 90-days in March a suspension that was lifted by High Court a few weeks after but he is yet to be cleared by the Federation to return to the pitch.

“Patrick Matasi’s case is still in the hands of the federation (FKF) but what I know is that the court (High Court) cleared him but the federation is yet to give him the clearance to return to the pitch. The court did not receive a formal allegation from anyone with evidence over his match-fixing allegations and so he was cleared by the court after no one showed or came out to show that he had been betting,” Imbenzi unearthed.

Homeboyz who are eying their first ever KPL title next season will be hoping to have their custodian to boost their chances of finishing top, and Imbenzi expects this to be effected before the transfer window closes on September 5.

“We are waiting for the FKF disciplinary committee to give him clearance to return to the pitch to play because they had suspended him for three months which he has served. We are about to close the transfer window and we are hoping that he will be cleared before the September 5 deadline.

"When that is done depending on clearance or not, then we will be able to make the decision to have him in our plans or allow him to decide on his next move,” Imbenzi said.

Matasi last featured for Harambee Stars in October last year in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers when Cameroon hammered Kenya 4-1 in Japoma Stadium in Duala, Cameroon and he was blamed widely for conceding cheap goals.

Homeboyz finished in position three on 58 points, seven behind champions Kenya Police.
