Uganda’s Ruga Ruga Select are set to add regional spice to the 2025 Christie 7s after hosts Kenya Harlequin confirmed pools for the tournament, scheduled for Saturday, August 16, and Sunday, August 17 at the RFUEA Grounds.

The Ugandan invitational side will feature in Pool C, regarded as the “The Crunch Pool” alongside Menengai Oilers, defending champions Kabras RFC, and Daystar Falcons.

With Oilers and Kabras among the most dominant teams on the National 7s Circuit, the battle for knockout slots promises high-intensity rugby from the start.

This year’s Christie 7s marks the third leg of the 2025 National 7s Circuit, following the Driftwood 7s and Prinsloo 7s.

Strathmore Leons and KCB are joint leaders of the circuit after two rounds —Driftwood and Prinsloo Sevens.

In the Christie 7s, Pool ‘A’ will be headlined by freshly-crowned Prinsloo 7s champions Strathmore Leos, alongside hosts Kenya Harlequin, Zetech Oaks, and coastal invitees Mombasa SC.

Quins will be targeting a semi-final breakthrough after sixth-place finishes in the opening two legs.

Pool B brings together in-form Catholic Monks, Nakuru RFC, Impala, and invited side Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) Rugby, who will be eager to make their presence felt.

In Pool D, powerhouse KCB Rugby face Mwamba RFC, Nondies, and newly-promoted Blak Blad.

The students earned promotion to the top tier after clinching the Division Two crown at the Prinsloo 7s.

Organisers and rugby stakeholders see the inclusion of teams like Ruga Ruga Select as a key step in raising the standard of competition and providing valuable exposure for local players.

Calls have been made for more cross-border invitations in future events, allowing young Kenyan players to test themselves against varied playing styles.

A recent example is the impact made when Patrick Odongo and Kevin Wekesa featured in the India Series, showcasing Kenyan flair on an international stage and inspiring the next generation.

With regional participation, fierce rivalries, and a rich history, the 58th edition of the Christie 7s is set to deliver another unforgettable weekend at the RFUEA Grounds.
