South Coast Pirates RFC have ushered
in a new era with the appointment of Tony ‘Lujeshi’ Khadambi as their head
coach ahead of the 2025/26 KRU Championship season.
Khadambi arrives with a reputation as
both a decorated player and an emerging coach.
He cut his teeth at Impala and KCB
before making his mark at Homeboyz, where he lifted multiple National Sevens
Circuit titles. Internationally, he captained the Kenya U20 Chipu 7s side and
featured in the 15s squad, experiences that cemented his leadership
credentials.
In coaching, Khadambi has built a
résumé that stretches beyond Kenya. At Moi University Arsonists, he guided the
team to back-to-back nationwide semifinal appearances and a KUSF National 7s
crown.
He later crossed into Uganda, taking
charge of Tororo Crest and serving as player-coach at Jinja Hippos, where he
played a part in their run to the Nile Special Premiership Final.
South Coast Pirates hailed his appointment,
noting:
“Coach Lujesi embodies the Pirate
spirit of ambition, resilience, and family. His passion for player development
and grassroots rugby makes him the right man to lead this new chapter.”
The coastal side has been in
transition since the exit of Kevin Amiani, with Ken Wambua stepping in on an
interim basis.
Khadambi now takes full command, tasked with returning the Pirates to the Kenya Cup after their relegation alongside Mwamba RFC last season.
His arrival injects optimism and
purpose into the club’s preparations, with eyes firmly set on bouncing back to
the top tier of Kenyan rugby.
