While speaking to Citizen Digital ahead of the second leg of the National Sevens Circuit, Ojal emphasized that their goal remains consistent.
“Our goal is to produce players who will be selected to represent the national team as we maintain a good run in the national circuit series.”
Ojal insisted that being favourites serves as an extra motivation for his charges.
“To be part of the best, we have to be the best. Being defending champions is a motivation, not pressure. We want to retain the Prinsloo 7s title.”
Leos were finalists in last weekend’s Driftwood 7s in Mombasa, narrowly falling to KCB in a tense final.
Ojal says that he has had to change his training methods this week to be lighter due to travel but more tactical, with a focus on understanding the game.
“Training has been different this week, we are just coming back from Mombasa and travelling to Nakuru this weekend the week has been a bit lighter. We’ve been focusing on game understanding so that we execute better.”
“We felt in Mombasa we did let in a couple of tries that we ought to have done better. We ended up soaking a total of six tries the whole weekend. We have a lot of work to do to take the number of tries conceded down so that's it’s important for everyone to understand what needs to be done in different areas of the pitch."
Strathmore Leos headline group B and will face off with Menengai Oilers, Daystar Falcons and Driftwood 7s division two champions Zetech Oaks.
