CAF cited breaches of tournament regulations after a section of fans engaged in unruly behavior, prompting FKF to take immediate steps to reaffirm its commitment to delivering a safe, inclusive, and dignified African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.
In a statement dated August 7, FKF President Hussein Mohammed condemned the acts of indiscipline witnessed at the stadium and reminded fans of the collective responsibility to uphold Kenya’s reputation as a trusted host of major international events, especially in light of the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya is set to co-host.
“Any acts of indiscipline not only compromise public safety but also tarnish our national image and jeopardize future hosting opportunities,” the statement read in part.
While FKF praised the majority of fans for their patriotic and orderly behavior, it issued a strong caution against carrying or using prohibited items such as flares, smoke devices, fireworks, alcohol, and weapons.
"Attendees were also warned against any aggressive, confrontational, or disruptive conduct. Enhanced security measures will be in place for the remaining CHAN 2024 fixtures, with clear consequences for those who break the rules. Offenders will be ejected, arrested, and prosecuted under Kenyan law," further reda the statement.
A comprehensive list of restricted items includes pyrotechnics, glass containers, sharp objects, offensive banners, professional recording equipment, and any articles deemed discriminatory or politically motivated.
FKF urged fans to cooperate fully with stadium security personnel and adhere to CAF’s Code of Conduct for Spectators, which has been circulated alongside the statement.
“As we continue to host this prestigious continental tournament, let us show Africa and the world that Kenya is a proud, capable, and responsible sporting nation,” Hussein concluded.
The call for discipline is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the success of CHAN 2024 and secure Kenya’s place as a reliable venue for top-tier international football.
Kenya plays Angola Thursday night (EAT) at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani in their second Group A fixture.
