Sports Principal Secretary (PS) Elijah
Mwangi has urged stakeholders from across Kenya’s sporting ecosystem to show up
in large numbers, for the inaugural Kenya National Sports and Career Symposium Fair,
set for August 6 to 8, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre
(KICC) in Nairobi.
Speaking during a media briefing held earlier
Monday at a city hotel, PS Mwangi described the event as a timely and
vital platform for sportsmen, professionals, and institutions to align
themselves with emerging global trends in sports.
“Kenya, as a renowned global sporting powerhouse and cultural
diversity, cannot afford to remain on the sidelines of these transformations.
We must be active elements in this regard based on the metamorphosis of the
global sporting arena,”
said Mwangi.
He emphasised that the symposium offers an
opportunity for the sports community to position itself strategically within a
dynamic and increasingly professional international sports landscape.
Echoing the call to action, Kenya Academy
of Sports (KAS) chairman, Albert Cege, urged stakeholders not to miss the chance to participate in what he
termed a defining moment for the future of Kenya’s sports sector.
He reaffirmed KAS’s commitment to strengthening the national sports
agenda, citing the ongoing launching and construction of 37 sports academies
across the country as a step in the right direction.
“We have launched 37 sports academies through the Sports Ministry,
and God willing, we will be able by 2027 to have all the sports academies ready
for use,” he noted.
He also highlighted the success of KAS-led
sports holiday camps, pointing out that the 2024 edition attracted close to
3,000 students—a clear indication of growing interest in sports as a career
path.
“We have had very successful sports holiday camps, for instance, last
year’s edition, which attracted 3000 students across seven sports disciplines,
where we try to nurture their unique talents.”
The three-day event, themed “Exploring
Career Opportunities in Sports,” is designed to spotlight the wide range of
professions that exist beyond active play.
From sports law and administration to journalism, media, innovation, and technology, the symposium will bring together students, athletes, institutions, federations, and global experts to exchange ideas, network, and learn.
