Soy United head coach Samuel Twago has remained optimistic about his team’s preparations for the new season, despite uncertainty caused by the Sports Disputes Tribunal’s injunction halting their promotion to the National Super League (NSL).

The ruling, issued on Wednesday, suspended Soy United’s elevation alongside Compel FC pending the outcome of a case involving Gucha Stars.

Yet, on the pitch, Soy have continued their build-up in the Elite Pre-season Cup, showing flashes of promise against top opposition.

On Tuesday, Soy marked their tournament debut with a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over FKF Premier League side Nairobi United at Dandora Stadium.

Forward Ambrose Sifuna stole the show with a sensational hat-trick, while Frank Ouya and Isaac Omweri struck for Nairobi United.

Less than 24 hours later, Soy United faced the Kariobangi Sharks, falling 2-0 in a match in which fatigue was evident.

Despite the defeat, Twago struck an optimistic tone. “We are in our fourth week of pre-season, and the games are so intense. The boys are not fully fit, but we are working well. We’ve made six or seven quality signings who are gelling with the squad,” he said.

Captain Kevin Odira maintained that the tournaments offer them a chance of gaining experience playing with the top teams even as they prepare for the new season.

“It has been a good experience; we have learned much from our opponents. To our fans, the same way we won last season, we will win this season too.”

Elsewhere in the group, Nairobi United bounced back strongly, overpowering Sofapaka 3-1 on Wednesday with goals from Lesley Otieno, Gideon Otieno, and captain Majaliwa Charo. Roy Okal netted the consolation for Sofapaka, who have now lost both of their matches.

Meanwhile, the Kariobangi Sharks boast the perfect record so far, winning both of their fixtures, conceding only one goal, and underlining their status as favorites to top the group.

Soy United will now face Sofapaka on Saturday at 9:00 am at Utalii Grounds, while Kariobangi Sharks take on Nairobi United at 11:00 am in a clash that could decide the group winner.

A strong result for Soy could keep them in the semifinal conversation, making the final round of matches decisive.
