Kenya’s Rising Starlets delivered a dominant performance on Sunday, September 28, thrashing Ethiopia 4-0 in the return leg of the CAF U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. The emphatic victory sealed a 5-1 aggregate win, sending Kenya into the third round of the competition.

The hosts got off to a flying start when Valarie Nekesa struck in the fourth minute, setting the tempo for the match. Kenya doubled their lead in the 16th minute through Elizabeth Mideva, who had also netted the opener in the first leg.

With Ethiopia struggling to settle, Kenya’s relentless pressure paid off again in the 28th minute. A superb long cross from the right found Fasila Adhiambo, who calmly slotted in the third goal to give the Starlets a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.

Ethiopia came back from the break determined to salvage their campaign, but defensive lapses proved costly. Mideva punished them once again in the 67th minute, firing home from the left to make it 4-0. Despite Ethiopia’s late push, Kenya’s backline held firm, keeping the scoreline intact through four minutes of stoppage time.

The convincing win underlined Kenya’s growing stature in women’s football and restored confidence after a hard-fought first leg. The Rising Starlets now turn their focus to the third round, where they will face the winner between Tanzania and Angola, with hopes high for an even deeper run in the qualifiers.
