The Private and International Preps Schools Sports Association
(PIPSSA) Kenya staged a one-day athletics championship at the Moi International
Sports Centre, Kasarani Annex Stadium, on Saturday, October 4th, 2025. About
ten schools and clubs lined up for the highly competitive event.
Participating teams included Viraj, Sabis School, Juja
Preparatory & Senior School, and Kitengela International.
Over 300 young athletes took to the track in sprints and
middle-distance races, displaying speed, stamina, and determination.
Among the brightest talents of the day was Winnie Baraka
from Juja Preparatory, featured in multiple events. She thanked PIPSSA Kenya
for creating a stage where she could measure herself against her peers and
showcase her talent. Winnie dreams of following in the footsteps of Faith
Kipyegon.
Fifteen-year-old John Otido from club Essp, lit up the
track, successfully defending his crowns in the 100m and 200m races. He
credited his victories to relentless training and set his sights on greater
heights, aiming to match the explosive Ferdinand Omanyala. He dreams of one day
earning a national call-up and flying the Kenyan flag at the Olympics and World
Championships.
Collins Kiplagat, head coach at Juja Preparatory, praised
the PIPSSA Kenya competitions, describing them as a vital arena where young
athletes test their strength, sharpen their skills, and gain valuable
experience.
Samuel Maina, representing PIPSSA Kenya, hailed the event’s
strong turnout and used the occasion to rally athletes and fans for the
upcoming PIPSSA Kenya National Sports Tournaments in Mombasa next week.
Also present was Athletics Kenya-affiliated coach Geoffrey
Macharia, who announced a new program to train 80 young athletes, mainly under
16. The chosen athletes, most from the PIPSSA circuits, will soon undergo
specialized sessions with World Athletics officials arriving in the country.
The program promises world-class training and certification. Macharia praised
Athletics Kenya, particularly youth development director Barnabas Korir, for
championing young talent.
In the girls’ category, Juja Preparatory stole the show with
1,469 points, while Kitengela International claimed second with 939, and Viraj
settled for third with 825.
In the boys’ category, Kitengela topped the table with 1,180
points. Juja Preparatory followed with 675, while Viraj came in third.
In the overall standings, Juja Preparatory emerged as
champions with 2,144 points, edging Kitengela International, which finished
second with 2,119. Viraj completed the podium with 1,300 points.
PIPSSA Kenya now turns its attention to the National
Championships, beginning October 11th. These championships feature a wide array
of sports, including swimming, soccer, skating, basketball, taekwondo, modern
dance, coding, gymnastics, archery, and chess.
