Kenya Police Bullets tactician Beldine Odemba is
optimistic of picking maximum points when the law enforcers meet the Eritrean
side DenDen FC in the second match of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League
CECAFA qualifiers on Wednesday at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
The reigning Kenya Women’s Premier League champions
began their campaign on a high after beating Uganda’s Kampala Queens 1-0 on
Thursday, September 4, to lift their spirits ahead of the second fixture.
Bullets, who were making their return to the zonal
qualifiers for the second successive year, needed a 46th-minute goal from
substitute Emily Kemunto Morang’a to secure the win, which puts them on top of
Group A after the first round of matches.
“We are very much prepared for the match against DenDen. Though we don’t know them very well, we saw their match against Kampala Queens, which they lost with a big margin of 7-0, and we have noted some of their weaknesses, which we will capitalize on going to the match.
"I also want
to thank all our fans for coming in large numbers to support us. That alone is a
big motivation to the girls, and being the home team, we must prove that we are
superior by winning all our matches.”
Their opponents, Kampala Queens, reignited their
campaign at the CECAFA Women’s Club Championship with a resounding 7-0 victory
over Eritrea’s Denden FC at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, September 7.
The win raised them to second place in Group A on
three points, level with leaders Kenya Police Bullets, who still have a game in
hand.
The tournament, which runs until September 11,
brings together nine league champions from across the CECAFA zone as they
battle for a single coveted ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League finals,
which are scheduled for November in Egypt.
Bullets are making their second consecutive
appearance on the continental stage.
Last year, they fell agonizingly short, losing 1–0
to CBE in the CECAFA final, missing out on a historic first qualification for
Kenya since Vihiga Queens’ success in 2021.
