Kenya Police Bullets chairman Munga Nyale
has called on fans to turn up in large numbers at Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday to
support the team in their CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers match
against Eritrean giants Denden FC. Kick-off is at 3pm.
The reigning Kenya Women’s Premier League
champions made a strong start to their campaign with a 1-0 victory over
Uganda’s Kampala Queens on Thursday, September 4.
Substitute Emily Kemunto Morang’a was the
hero, netting in the 46th minute to hand Bullets all three points and put them
top of Group A after the opening round.
Nyale praised coach Beldine Odemba for
steering the team to a winning start and expressed confidence in the squad’s
preparations.
“I have been keenly following their
preparations for the game and I’m happy for the progress ahead of the match. We
have a very qualified coach Odemba who guided them in the first win against
Kampala, and I have no doubt that she will do the same today. As I said
earlier, this tournament consists of teams which conquered their respective
leagues in their countries hence we will not underrate any of them,” noted
Nyale.
Their opponents, Denden FC, suffered a
heavy 7-0 defeat to Kampala Queens at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, setting
up a must-win situation for the Eritrean side.
Nyale urged fans to rally behind the
Bullets, reminding them that entry to Nyayo Stadium is free.
“Fans play a big role in motivating the
players to work extra hard and I’m hereby urging all our supporters to come and
support the ladies. It’s a free entry at Nyayo so I’m kindly asking them to
come and rally behind our girls because a win will see us proceeding to the
next level of the competition,” he added.
The qualifiers, which runs until September 11, bring together nine league champions from across the region to battle for one ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League finals in November in Egypt.
