Philip Edwine Anayo has been appointed as a co-opted non-executive director of the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) board, a move he says he accepts with honour and a commitment to help grow the game across the country.

In a statement on Thursday, Anayo said he looks forward to contributing his experience in commerce and industry to strengthen structures that will advance rugby from grassroots programmes to the national teams.

“I am eager to get to work,” he said, adding that he and his fellow board members are committed to building on Kenya’s strong rugby foundation and ensuring national teams thrive on the global stage.

The former Market Milimani MCA is a director at Homeland Itoya Events, an end-to-end events services firm with offices in Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret and Busia.

Homeland Itoya Events currently sponsors Kisumu Rugby Football Club (KRFC), underscoring his active role in supporting grassroots rugby.

Anayo was elected unopposed as the Kisumu RFC chairman in 2018 and served until 2020.

During his tenure, he helped secure significant sponsorship that enabled the club to complete the National 7s circuit and host successful Dala 7s tournaments.

The statement credited his tenure with stabilizing the club’s finances and raising its profile.

KRU’s decision to co-opt Anayo comes as the union seeks to deepen commercial partnerships, expand the game’s reach and professionalize administration at all levels.

With experience in events, sponsorship and club management, Anayo brings practical expertise that could help bridge corporate backing and community development initiatives.
