KCB Rugby captain Vincent Onyala says the
pressure is easing on his side as they close in on the National 7s Circuit
crown following yet another historic triumph at the Kabeberi 7s.
The bankers completed a record fourth
straight Kabeberi title at the RFUEA Grounds, the victory pushed them to the
summit of the circuit standings with 104 points, leaving them just a
quarterfinal appearance at the Dala 7s in Kisumu away from sealing the overall
championship.
Onyala, who has been central to KCB’s
consistency this season, believes the team’s run of five straight final
appearances has relieved some of the burden heading into the last leg.
“We have proven without a doubt five times
that we can make it to the finals,” Onyala told Citizen Digital.
“Going into Dala, the pressure is not that
much as we thought it will be. We just have to play a game at a time and the
results will sort themselves.”
The win also cemented KCB’s status as one
of the most decorated clubs in the competition’s history, with six Kabeberi
titles to their name, 2008, 2014, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
With their sevens job nearly done, Onyala
says the bankers are already turning their sights to the longer format. “We
expect to replicate the same performance in the 15s version of the game,” he
added.
Onyala was also voted as Kabeberi 7s most valuable player after leading the bankers to a 20-10 win over Daystar Falcons to clinch the tourney.
