Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, has confirmed that he will not compete in the 2025 Diamond League Final due to injury setbacks.

The Kenyan sprint star, who is a two-time African champion and Commonwealth Games 100m gold medalist, made the announcement through his official social media handles.

Omanyala revealed that he has been struggling with persistent pain in his hip, iliopsoas muscles, and gluteal region over the past few weeks, which has disrupted his preparations for the prestigious event.

He stated that the discomfort has affected his ability to perform at his best, forcing him to withdraw from the Diamond League Final scheduled for August 27–28 in Zurich, Switzerland.

“Due to recent pain in my hip, iliopsoas, and gluteal muscles over the past few weeks, I regret to inform you that I will not be able to take part in the 2025 Diamond League Final,” Omanyala wrote.

Despite the setback, the sprint sensation remains optimistic about a strong return to action.

He expressed confidence that he will recover in time to represent Kenya at the World Athletics Championships set for Tokyo, Japan, from September 13 to 21.

“I am hopeful about my recovery and I look forward to being fully fit for Tokyo,” he added.

The Diamond League Final is one of the most competitive stages in global athletics, and Omanyala’s absence is seen as a big blow for fans eager to watch him in the men’s 100m showdown, scheduled for Thursday, August 28 at 9:27 PM East African Time.

Nevertheless, supporters and athletics enthusiasts continue to rally behind the Kenyan star, wishing him a speedy recovery as he shifts his focus to the upcoming World Championships, where he hopes to make a strong statement on the global stage.
