National Super League (NSL) began their quest for the 2025/26
title off to a winning note, edging visiting 3K FC 2–1 at Sudi Stadium on
Sunday.
The Sugar Millers came into the fixture buoyed by an
unbeaten record against the Embu-based club, having drawn both legs last
season. Substitute Felix Seda made all the difference in the weekend clash,
stepping off the bench to score twice for the hosts, while Kadonna netted a late
consolation for 3K.
Head coach Charles Odero lauded his players’ grit and
highlighted the club’s improved financial footing as a key factor in the
victory.
“The timely sponsorship is key,” Odero told Citizen Digital. “The players are now
focused on training and delivering good results. They are not worried about rent
and food problems.”
Despite the loss, 3K FC coach Francis Chege found positives
in his side’s performance but admitted lapses in concentration proved costly.
“The game was generally good, but we conceded two goals
because we lacked concentration. This was last season’s problem and we have to
correct that in the new campaign,” he said.
Elsewhere in the opening weekend of the NSL, Mombasa United
edged MCF 1–0 on Saturday, while Naivas also began with a 1–0 victory over
Fortune Sacco on Sunday. Kabati Youth were held to a 1–1 draw by Vihiga United,
and Luanda Villa shared the spoils in a 1–1 stalemate with SamWest Blackboots.
Other results saw MOFA defeat Nairobi City Stars 1–0, Migori
beat Mwatate United by the same scoreline, and Talanta secure a 1–0 win against
Kibera Black Stars.
With early wins setting the tone, the NSL promises another
fiercely contested season as clubs chase promotion to the top-flight Football
Kenya Federation Premier League.
