Kenyan football giants AFC Leopards have
officially unveiled nine new signings as they aim to end their long wait for a
Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title under head coach Fred Ambani.
The unveiling took place at Dandora Stadium
on Sunday, minutes before Ingwe’s international friendly against Zanzibar’s New
Kings FC, which Leopards won 4–2.
The new faces include attacking midfielder
Jamal Obeid, who has been promoted from the youth team, goalkeeper Samuel
Ambale Kusindi from Division Two side Nashville FC on a two-year contract, and
attacking midfielder Deng Kangi, also promoted from the youth team on a
three-year deal.
Former National Super League top scorer
Ellias Mugane joins from Fortune Sacco, while Ugandan striker Samuel Ssenyonjo
arrives from Express FC on a two-year deal. Right-back Brian Oko Nyongesa has
signed a three-year contract from NSL side Soy United, while Ivorian defender
Rami Lasso Coulibaly joins from Morocco’s Chabab Alam Tanger FC on a two-year
deal.
Also joining are attacking midfielder Tyson
Otieno, who has previously featured for Wazito FC, Kariobangi Sharks and Kenya
Police FC, and winger James Kinyanjui from KCB, both signing two-year
contracts.
Senior forward Victor Omune expressed
confidence that the new-look squad is ready to bring glory back to the den and
end a title drought stretching back to 1998.
“First, I would like to thank
you, the fans, for pushing us last season and I want to pray that you do even much
better this season to rally behind us. I can confirm that we are very ready to
win a title this season,”
vowed Omune.
Omune, who was previously linked with an
exit before the new regime under chairman Boniface Ambani took over, warned
rivals to expect a tougher Ingwe this season.
“These people standing here are very willing to fight for this badge. And I think with your prayers and your unwavering support, God will bless us with something at the end of the season”, Omune opined.
