Highflying
Nakuru RFC have accredited their great start to the ongoing National Sevens Circuit
to the financial stability, brought about by their partners, Smart Applications
International with the club currently ranked third in the Sevens standings.
The
Wanyore, under the tutelage of their former captain Oscar Ouma, made an
impressive start to the season in Mombasa, finishing fourth overall in the
Driftwood Sevens, after falling to Kabras sugar 21-10 in the Bronze final.
They had
come up short 28-0 in their semi-final pairing against Strathmore Leos but
there were flashes of brilliance in the relatively young squad.
Smart
Applications have backed Nakuru for the past season helping them avoid relegation
last term and have started the shorter version of the game in good form heading
to the third leg of the national sevens circuit, the Christie Sevens.
Smart
CEO Isaiah Mosiori was previously quoted saying, “We’re proud to walk this
journey with Nakuru RFC, not just as sponsors but as partners, supporting their
progression towards becoming champions.”
It’s a
dream the Wanyore faithful will hope becomes a reality sooner rather than
later, starting with the NSC which they last won in 2015.
Nakuru’s
most successful Kenya Cup campaigns dates back to 2013 and 2014 when they won
the local league back to back.
They are
in Group B for this weekend’s Christie Sevens alongside Catholic Monks, Impala
and Masinde Muliro University (MMUST RFC).
