The win saw the ten-time African champions sign off the global fiesta on a high note following a 3-1 sets loss to former European champions Poland and a 3-0 defeat to Germany in the preliminary matches of Group ‘G’.
The 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 victory was more than just a result—it was a landmark moment for the Kenyan lasses, who have only two wins under their belt in their last seven appearances at the World Championship
While giving her post match reactions Nafula credited the win as a team effort and credited her coach Geoffrey Omondi for his tactical brilliance that saw them beat Vietnam.
“Everyone has done her part in this win, we were composed, the blocks and receptions were on point and we just followed what our coach told us and everything worked for us,” Nafula averred.
The youngster admitted that playing against top European sides earlier in the tournament was a turning point in her growth.
“I have learnt a lot from our opponents Germany and Poland and when I get back my game will have improved.”
I’ve watched other liberos, their movements and their reception, how they position themselves on the court, and I’ll add some to my game,” she said.
Nafula added that the victory was motivation to push harder, with the team already setting its sights on qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
