The race to the NCBA Golf Series Grand
Finale intensified over the weekend as several golfers booked their places in
the November showdown at Muthaiga Golf Club.
At the Mombasa Golf Club qualifier, Gurbux
Singh carded a score of 77 to claim the Overall Gross Winner’s title, sealing
his ticket to the finale.
Division A honors went to George Githinji,
who played an impressive 72 off handicap 8. Victor Simbi edged Martin Wahome to
second place on countback after both returned 73.
Division B saw Clifford Tolo dominate with
a stellar 64, while Sam Muraya (65) and George Mokaya (71) followed. In
Division C, Salim Taib took top spot on 69, with Vincent Muriungi (70) and Paul
Munyao (71) completing the podium.
The four winners — Singh, Githinji, Tolo,
and Taib — now join an elite list of golfers headed to Muthaiga for the Grand
Finale in November.
Meanwhile, at the Railway Golf Club in
Nairobi, home player Isaac Makokha produced a masterclass to win the 2025 NCBA
Railway Invitational.
Competing against 72 players, Makokha
carded 5-under-par 211 over three rounds to edge past Michael Karanga
(4-under-par 212) and John Lejirma (1-over-par 217).
Makokha, who has a hearing disability, set
the tone with a sizzling 4-under-par 68 in the opening round, followed by 1-under
71 in round two.
A double bogey on the 8th hole during the
final round threatened to derail his momentum, but he steadied to finish level
par and secure the crown.
Karanga, the defending champion, finished
strongly with a 4-under-par 68 in the last round after back-to-back 72s in the
opening two. Lejirma recovered from a shaky first round (74) with rounds of 71 and
72, but had to settle for third.
With this victory, Makokha climbs to 4th place on the NCBA standings with 753 points. Lejirma remains on top with 2050 points, followed by Karanga (1712) and Elvis Muigus (1046).
