Speaking to Citizen Digital, club’s Chief Executive Officer, Nick Arunga hopes the changes will help the team earn promotion next season and become the second club from the Coast region to play in the top-flight league after Bandari.
Arunga aims to strengthen all departments of the squad, starting with the goalkeeper position, where he wants stiff competition.
Additionally, he is targeting experienced players who have featured in the league before, to bolster Mombasa United’s squad ahead of the new season.
"Last season we had good players but we lacked substitutes. We are going to reinforce from the goalkeeping department to the strikers because our goal is to give young players a chance to play in big leagues," he said.
Mombasa United struggled last season, something Arunga attributes to a lack of experienced players, as the team was largely made up of young, inexperienced players.
He revealed that half of the current squad could be released, as the club plans to bring in more capable players to strengthen the team.
"Our target next season is to win the NSL and play in the FKF Premier League. This is in plan because we are going to bring in an experienced coach and players with NSL experience," he added.
Mombasa United narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing just one place above the danger zone on the league standings.
